What does "being triggered" mean? What are "triggers"? Are you students reporting being triggered? Are you triggered by them? In this session, we lay some groundwork for understanding the mental health elements behind social trends of (1) conceptualizing our identities, (2) the impacts of defining our selves and experiences relative to one another, (3) differentiating trauma and stress, (4) how these tendencies may present challenges unique to study abroad, and (5) strategies to scaffold and contextualize understanding and more flexible, helpful alternatives.
